Who Is Ram Rahim?

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, a self-styled Godman, was once a self-appointed spiritual guru, actor, action hero, producer, director, singer and musician etc., He was self centered man also had once claimed that he was the force behind Virat Kohli. He also proclaimed himself has a scientist once. He is known for maintaining a flamboyant lifestyle.  He has been the head of the social group Dera Sacha Sauda (DSS) since 23 September 1990. The Indian Express placed Singh 96th in their list of the 100 most powerful Indians of 2015.

The Allegations Made Against Ram Rahim Baba 

Ram Rahim was charged for two rape cases when two of his female disciples charged an FIR against him on August 25. He gets 20 years of imprisonment and this may be the minimum punishment he will get. There are chances were he may face life imprisonment or even death in two other cases. Ram Chander Chhatrapati who publishes the ‘Poora Sach’ newspaper had published an anonymous letter on May 30,2002 giving details about how women were sexually harassed in Dera by Ram Rahim. Later on October 24, 2002 he was shot dead at his residency by men of Ram Rahim. Ram Rahim is also accused of the murder of Ranjit Singh, a former Dera member , who was suspected to be behind this anonymous letter. It is believed that Ram Rahim raped several women. But nobody came forward due to fear of the former Dera chief.

The Reaction Of His Followers After The Verdict

Seven incidents of violence have been reported at Delhi. Two coaches of Rewa Express have been set ablaze near Anand Vihar railway station. More that 250 army jawans have been deployed at Panchkula. The followers of Ram Rahim set out Mallout and Balluanna railway stations on fire in Punjab. So far there have been 224 incidents of violence in Haryana. 64 instances of violence have been reported from Punjab. A lot of chaos has been there in the states of Punjab and Haryana and it has been alleged that five men have died so far. There have been attacks on police camps and media persons. Three Dera chief followers have been encountered by the police. The Haryana chief minister pleaded for peace and harmony in the state.

Honeypreet, Ram Rahim’s Alleged Daughter

Honeypreet Insan, whose real name is Priyanaka Taneja, is the “adopted daughter” of  Dera Chief. Honeypreet calls herself as “Papa’s angel” and is considered to be the most famous of his children . She hails from Fatehabad town and studied school run by in Dera management . She got married to Vishwas Gupta. However, Gupta accused Ram Rahim and Honeypreet of illicit relation and also alleged that their father-daughter relation is a sham. It is alleged that Honeypreet used to stay with Ram Rahim in his own quarters. Honeypreet also accompanied Ram Rahim to the court and also requested for anticipatory bail which was later rejected by the Supreme Court. Cases of fraud and sedition have been charged against her and police have been looking for her since then.

Many people nowadays have been using religion for wrong deeds. Lot’s of fake Godmen and God women are emerging nowadays making use of people’s religious belief and making a fool out of it. Crimes are being committed on the name of caste and creed. No religion asks us to resort to violence. However there are few fake saints that make use of weak hearts of their followers and make them do their bidding. People have to open up their eyes and raise voices against these people rather than blindly following them.
